Admission Requirement

Who Can Apply:
RCB welcomes applications from individuals who are blind or visually impaired from aged 13 and above, seeking accessible education, training, or rehabilitation services. We admit students from across Nigeria and neighboring regions, including those with additional learning needs.

To complete your application, ensure you have the following:

Completed online or physical application form
Medical report confirming visual impairment
Birth certificate or valid ID
Academic records or transcripts (if applicable)
2 recent passport-sized photographs
Referral letter from a parent, guardian, school, or medical provider (optional but encouraged)

✅ Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, applicants must:

Have a documented vision impairment or blindness
Be able to benefit from RCB’s academic, vocational, or rehabilitation services
Be willing to participate in all program activities, including mobility training, life skills, and assistive tech classes
Agree to abide by the center’s guidelines and policies

Admission Process

At the Resource Center for the Blind (RCB), we’ve made the admission process straightforward and inclusive to ensure every eligible applicant can easily apply.

Step 1: Complete Application Form

Fill out the admission form online or in person with your personal, educational, and medical details. This is your first step to joining RCB.

Step 2: Submit Required Documents

Provide the following: Medical report confirming visual impairment, Academic records (if available), Valid ID or birth certificate and Passport photographs.

Step 3: Review & Admission Decision

The RCB team reviews your application and documents. If qualified, you’ll be invited for a brief interview or assessment. Successful applicants will receive an official admission offer and next steps.

Answers to common questions

At what age does residential living typically start at RCB?

In general, residential placement is available starting at age 13- 25, It is not required that students live on campus, however RCB does offer residential programming. Residential living offers students opportunities to work on social interaction and independent living skills. Our residential cottages are fully accessible and staffed 24/7.

What is the tuition?

RCB has six state-approved tuition rates aligned to the amount of support students need. Contact our admissions department today to learn more: admissions@resourcecenterfortheblind.org

Is there a deadline to apply?

No, RCB has rolling admissions, so you are free to apply at any time.

How do i know if my child is eligible to attend RCB?

All students must go through an admission process to determine eligibility and acceptance into a RCB Rehabilitation Program. Some general eligibility criteria include the presence of a documented vision impairment, and eligibility for an IEP. Click here to check our admission requirement.

RCB Instructional Resource for the Blind

RCB Instructional Resource for the Blind provides Braille and large-print books, materials and other services to all blind and visually impaired students in RCB. We also operate a Braille and large print production service for textbooks and other print resources.

What are my rights as a parent?

As the parent of a son or daughter with special needs, you have the right to an independent educational evaluation for your child, as allowed under the federal special education law Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). You can read detailed descriptions of your parental rights in “A Parent’s Guide to Special Education,” a free online publication produced by the Massachusetts Department of Education and The Federation for Children with Special Needs.

Which curriculum track will my child be enrolled in?

RCB meets students where they are. Depending on your child’s unique needs, they will fall onto a track. Keep in mind, RCB continuously monitors progress and assesses students to ensure they are challenged appropriately.

How many educators and service providers will be working directly with my child?

Your child’s educational team will be determined by your child’s learning profile. We have specialists in orientation and mobility, speech and language pathology, physical and occupational therapy, individual and group counseling and assistive technology. They are the best in their fields, and all share a common goal: to educate and prepare our students for independence today and later in life.

Will my child have friends at RCB?

Yes. At RCB, your child will be surrounded by peers who share and understand their disability.
Many of our students create strong friendships that endure long after they leave RCB.
